Cemetery Field and Event Field: Community Spaces in Nature
Where conservation meets recreation in Seven Fields’ managed meadows
Cemetery Field and Event Field (also known as Old Events Field) demonstrate how nature reserves can balance conservation with community use. The importance of these meadows has been recognized since Seven Fields received Statutory Designation as a Local Nature Reserve in 1995. Each year a football pitch-sized area is cut to enable local youngsters to play ball games and provide room for picnicking, while the rest of the meadow is managed for wildlife. Early orchid species have been spotted in both fields, showing that careful management allows recreation and biodiversity to coexist harmoniously.
