Spring Field and Long Meadow: Wildflower Treasures
Over 200 species of flowers and grasses bloom in Wiltshire’s finest meadows
Spring Field and Long Meadow are the best wildflower meadows at Seven Fields, with over 200 species of flowers and grasses growing throughout the year. Mid-summer is the best time to see the meadows when they display Ox Eye Daisies, Vetches, Ladies Bedstraw, Yellow Rattle, Scabious, Restharrow and Marsh, Pyramidal and Bee Orchids. The meadows are cut for hay once a year in late summer, and the hay is taken away—this prevents enrichment and allows weaker species of wildflower to bloom freely. Each year something new is discovered.
